Established in 1957 as a White Alice Tropospheric Communications and Microwave radio transmission site, the Diamond Ridge Air Force Station linked the Aleutian Island WACS system with the Alaskan Mainland via a 130-mile shot to the Big Mountain AFS to the West and also provided a WACS link to Kodiak Island via a 134-mile shot to Pillar Mountain AFS. The site's co-located Microwave radio transmission site link provided line-of-site communications links with the WACS station at Soldotna 66 miles Northward.

Remaining operational in the White Alice system through the mid-1980s, the troposcatter communications mission of the site ended with the sites acquisition by Alascom, now a division of AT&T. All troposcatter equipment was removed from the site by 1987. The site remains connected to Anchorage via Alascom's microwave network.
