Alternative art space, founded 1976 in the First Ward School which was built in 1893. It could hold up to 1,000 students in its more than 30 rooms. It was renamed P.S. 1 in 1898, but closed in 1962, and reopened as the Institute for Art and Urban Resources Inc.
The interior was used as a filming location for the USA Network series "White Collar".
