Moolack Mountain is a broad forested plateau covering about 1 square mile. The plateau averages about 4800 feet in elevation, though the highest point at the south end reaches 5485 feet. During glacial periods large glaciers excavated the valleys of the North Fork Middle Fork Willamette to the east and north of Moolack Mountain, and Fisher Creek to the west. The glaciers originated in the Waldo area icecap and split around Moolack Mountain, leaving the plateau as a remnant of the pre-glaciation land surface. A rock-climbing area is located on a ridge at the extreme northwestern corner of the mountain. For many years climbing routes on the cliff were intentionally reported only by word-of-mouth; then in 2012 the book "Northwest Oregon Rock" included several routes on Moolack Mountain.
