Established in November of 1988 on the former grounds of the Pinetree Line N-27 radar site, the LAB-6 or Cartwright radar site is a long-range radar station in the LAB Sector of the North Warning System. One of two manned stations in the LAB Sector, the station's technicians are tasked with the supply and maintenance of the two unmanned radar sites at LAB-5/Tukialik and LAB-4/Big Bay to the North.

The LAB-6 station is both the Easternmost and Southernmost station in the North Warning System, which extends North through Labrador and West roughly along the 60th Parallel to its Westernmost station at Point Barrow, Alaska.
