Samar State University (SSU) is the premier university in the province of Samar, Philippines. The main campus is in Catbalogan City, Samar.[1] Formerly known as the Samar State Polytechnic College (SSPC), it has three external campuses, namely, the Paranas Campus (formerly known as the Wright Vocational School) in Paranas; Mercedes Campus (the former Samar Regional School of Fisheries (SRSF)) in Barangay Mercedes, Catbalogan City, and the Basey Campus, the future site of the university's College of Agriculture and Forestry.

Samar State University is mandated to provide advanced instruction and professional training in the arts, philosophy, social sciences, agriculture, fishery, forestry, science and technology, engineering, education, law, and other related fields. It is also mandated to undertake research and extension services, and provide progressive leadership in its area of specialization.
