A satellite college of the University of the Philippines, it was established on May 23, 1973 as part of the University of the Philippines Visayas.
The UPV Tacloban College was intended to serve Tacloban as a necessary component in the socio-economic growth and progress of the region. The College has strong undergraduate degree programs in the arts and sciences, management, and graduate programs in management and boasts of a strong degree program in accountancy in Region VIII. UPV Tacloban was founded in 1973.
