The largest natural lake in North Dakota, it is an endorheic lake, that is, with no natural outlet. As such its level fluctuates considerably (as do its eutrophy and salinity), and its outline is therefore difficult to define clearly. North Dakota tried to devise a controlled outlet, but Minnesota and Manitoba objected. Your tax dollars at work.
