US Radiator

US Radiator was founded in 1890 in Detroit to make cast iron radiators for heating. It manufactured boilers and radiators under the name Capitol Boilers. In 1927 it merged with National Radiator.

Guardian Industries

Glass maker, Guardian Industries acquired the former US Radiator plant in 1956 and commenced production of curved laminated windshields. The plant was closed in 1982 after a short strike, and production was moved to a non-union Guardian operation in Sandusky, Ohio.

The plant was sold and by 1988 was forfeited for taxes to the State of Michigan. The buildings were demolished and later the property was used by the City of Detroit as a recycling collection depot
