In the 17th century medical students had to have bodies for them to dissect in order to gain enough medical knowledge and the trade of body snatching from graveyards was popular. In order to prevent body snatcher St Sepulchre's Church built this watch house overlooking the churchyard where the watchman can keep an eye on the activities in the churchyard.
