Clerkenwell is an area in the northeast of Central London in the London Borough of Islington, and was at one time the Italian area of the city. It has also been famous for radicalism such as Lollards, Chartists and Communists. At one time industrial, the area fell into long decline but in the 1990s slowly improved.
