borough, draw only border, third-level administrative division
Richmond-upon-Thames is the only London borough council which is located on both sides of the River Thames.
Districts within the council area include Mortlake, Richmond, Twickenham, Teddington and Hampton and there is a population of about 179,500. It has the highest proportion of parkland of the London Boroughs and two Royal Parks as well as Hampton Court Park, Golf Course, Gardens and Palace. Twickenham stadium and RHS Kew (Botanical) Gardens and plant research centre are in the borough as well as the National Physical Laboratory and National Archives. Two further golf courses and two areas of designated low-lying riverside wildlife parks are also in the borough, one of which is the London Wetlands centre, the other Ham Riverside Lands includes part of the grounds of stately Ham House which faces Marble Hill Park a second heritage House with parkland. The single underground linked area of Richmond and Kew has no railways underground and Richmond has fast connections to Waterloo on a busy commuter line. Kew and Richmond share District Line and London Overground routes also making them similarly connected to many directions by public transport as most inner London districts. The Thames and its Thames Path wend through the borough as series of meanders two of which are within the larger 'south-west Middlesex' meander.
