MOOSE ISLAND, a business site in section 4 of Donnelly, was named for the former Moose Island Lake, noted in the list of lakes, five to eight miles distant southward, which is mostly drained. The site began with a Great Northern Railway section house, a lumberyard, a coal and wood yard, a grain warehouse, and elevators. The post office operated 1891-96 and 1905-8 to handle mail for the Barrett Ranch, owned by Gen. Theodore H. Barrett, who had served with the Ninth Minnesota during the Civil War; he was the largest landholder in the township. It has an estimated population of 10.
