The King's School is a British independent school situated in Canterbury, Kent. Founded in AD 597 by St. Augustine, making it the world's oldest school. When the dissolution of the monasteries occurred in the reign of Henry VIII, the school was refounded as the King's School, Canterbury. Famous pupils include Patrick Leigh Fermor, Canon Derek Ingram-Hill, Anthony Worrall Thompson (who Gordon Ramsey refers to as a squashed Bee Gee amongst other terms of endearment), Sebastian Shaw, Michael Foale, David Gower, Zoë Shaw, Sir Hugh Walpole, William Broughton, Sir Arthur Fairfax Coryndon Luxmoore, Tanya Shaw, Christopher Marlowe.
