An important landmark of Mylapore, this company is more than a century old. Its flagship brand Amrutanjan is almost a generic name for pain balms in South India. Its founder Nageswara Rao Pantulu is said to have steered a move to develop the land next door on which a park stands today bearing his name. Mahatma Gandhi used to stay in this house as a guest.
In earier days one could often get the smell of the pain balm wafting in the neighbourhood. Sad to see the buildings and estate in a state of neglect today. Indeed a place with a rich history.
