Although named as 'Panju' - Born in water, this village faced scarcity of drinking water, as it is surrounded by a creek i.e. salty water. In past years water was transported manually over a busy railway bridge (now defunct)- with narrow walking space & missing plates at some places. Villagers faced a very hard life, as the only contact with the main land was over the railway bridge.
Ferry service has lightened their woes to a great extent, but a road over -now defunct - railway bridge would link them with the main land properly.
Main busyness of islanders is fishing & salt pans.
