Panju is derieved from the East Indian Marathi word, "Pachu" which means "Gem" or "saphire" as we know, It's said to be like a diamond in the midst of Vasai creek like diamond in the heart of the creek.
Panju Island is an estuarine island in the Vasai Creek just north of Mumbai. The island is used by Western Railway to connect the island of Salsette with the mainland at Vasai. It is located at 19.333° N 72.85° E with a maximum elevation of 1 m (3 ft)
Vasai Creek is an estuarine creek, one of the two main distributaries of the Ulhas River in Maharashtra state of western India. The Ulhas splits at the northeast corner of Salsette Island into its two main distributaries, Vasai Creek and Thane Creek. Vasai Creek forms the northern boundary of Salsette Island, and empties west into the Arabian Sea; Thane creek, flowing on North-east & East direction of Mumbai, empties southwards into Mumbai Harbour.

  • Panju does not sound correct. I must be PANCHU( N is a nasal sound), name of a green Jewel. This name is often given to green islands.
