Originally a row of 3.5-story dwellings, later raised to 4 floors in about 1880. In 1941, the buildings were merged on the interior, raised again to 5 floors and refaced with a unified facade by Israel L. Clausman. The group was renovated with a new facade again in 2011 by Morris Adjmi Architects. Clad in dark red brick divided by recessed vertical windows, the building's windows have stone sills and lintels, also painted dark red. The southernmost section (No. 1333) retains its historic entrance, with oculi, rosettes and stone entrance surround.

The entire building, known as Wilf Hall, was acquired by NYU in 1984. Besides the theater, Wilf Hall also houses several of the NYU Law School's centers.
