About 1904, trunk and valise maker, Meier & Schuknecht, moved from Atwater Street to a newly constructed four story factory on East Milwaukee Street. The building was acquired by automaker Metzger Motor Car in 1910, a venture of automobile pioneers William F. Metzger, Barney F. Everitt and William Kelly. The Metzger Motor Car Co. produced a Runabout and a five passenger Touring Car sold as the Everitt. In 1913, Metzger was acquired by Maxwell Motor Car which continued to occupy the building until 1916 at which time it was sold to Fisher Closed Body.

Known as Fisher Body No. 12, the plant produced automotive trim until it was was acquired by J. Lee Hackett Machinery Company in 1942 which operated until 1973. In 1981 the buildings were demolished.
