Originally constructed in 1916 by Michigan Stamping Co., an early supplier of Model T chassis to Ford, the property was acquired by Briggs Manufacturing in 1923. Briggs produced bodies for Plymouth and other auto makers. By 1945, the six story factory employed over 4,000 workers.
In 1953 Chrysler acquired twelve Briggs plants in Detroit including the 2,238,904 sq. ft., 40 ac., Mack Avenue site. In 1974, when it was converted to a stamping operation, it was renamed the Chrysler Mack Avenue Stamping Plant. The outdated plant was closed by Chrysler in 1979. The factory was demolished in 1990.
