Soniachnyi Quarter (Kostiantynivka)

Ukraine / Donetska / Kostyantynivka / Kostiantynivka
quarter (urban subdivision), residential neighbourhood, town district

«Soniachnyi» is a residential microdistrict of Kostiantynivka, located on the left bank of the Kryvyi Toretz River, on the southwestern outskirts of the city. It is one of the youngest microdistricts of Kostiantynivka, established in the early 1980s.

The architectural appearance of «Soniachnyi» is formed by ten-story, nine-story, and five-story buildings. It houses shops, the ATB-Market supermarket, General Secondary School No. 1, and several unfinished buildings, including the city council, a cinema, a fire station, two ten-story buildings, and one fourteen-story building.

The name of the microdistrict comes from a store that was previously located at the site of the current «DELINI.» The store was named «Soniachnyi» after its first owner, Solntsev. Initially, it was planned to build a second traffic lane — Hromova Street — with one-way lanes in each direction at the location of the store. However, only one lane was built, and the project to construct the second lane was never realized. It was also planned to establish a tram route along this road, but this plan was never implemented.

During the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the «Soniachnyi» microdistrict has repeatedly been subjected to shelling. Despite this, it remains an important part of the city's infrastructure.
