apartment building, historic landmark
5-story Federal-style residential building originally completed in 1803 as a 3-story storehouse for Captain Joseph Rose. At some point in the mid-1800s it was raised to five floors. It is clad in red brick above a ground floor that has been stuccoed. Many of the early features of the building have been altered, but at the 2nd and 3rd floors of Flemish bond brickwork the original splayed stone window lintels remain. The right-hand window at the 4th floor is wider and shorter than the rest. A metal fire escape has been added to the left two bays of the facade, which is capped by a simple metal cornice.
