4-story residential building originally completed in 1800, along with Nos. 220, 222 & 224, as 2.5-story commercial buildings. In 1897 this building was raised to four floors, with a new red brick facade. In contrast to the other three buildings, No. 226 has four bays of smaller windows, with flat stone sills and lintels. A simple black metal gutter runs across the roof line, and a black metal fire escape, added sometime in the early 20th-century, runs down the center two bays. A part of the Historic Front Street 2005 re-development project, this building was restored and converted to rental apartments. The ground floor is occupied by Made Fresh Daily bake shop.
