Formerly the market cross and later the town hall. The first Market Cross building was destroyed in a fire in 1606, and a replacement was built in 1620. In 1734 the first floor was converted into a theatre, later the theatre became too small and a new theatre opened in Westgate Street in 1819. Now an art gallery on the upper storey with offices below.
It is a grade I listed building.
