11-story Neo-Gothic/Tudor cooperative-apartment building completed in 1928. Designed by the H. Douglas Ives and the Fred F. French Company, it is massed into four wings, with three light wells at the front and back separating them. The facades are clad in reddish-orange brick with light-grey granite water tables. The edges of the outer wings are lined with projecting piers of beige terra-cotta modeled after the ornament on Sutton Place, Surrey (1520s); these panels are covered with lions, stars, and intricate patterns.
The main entrance is in the middle light court, where the ground floor is terra-cotta, with a wide Tudor arch and wooden doors, with portcullises in the spandrels. They are flanked by paired Tudor-arched leaded-glass windows. The secondary entrance in the outer light courts are similar, but without long, rounded, green canvas canopy extending out over the sidewalk. The upper floors at the rear of the light courts have four casement windows, grouped into pairs. The sidewalls have five windows, also casements, with the front one narrower (missing from the east-facing sidewall of the west light court).
The fronts of the two middle wings have two bays of paired casement windows, with a projecting brick pier in between and one on either end. There are terra-cotta spandrels between the 1st & 2nd floors at each window. A brick string course runs between the 2nd & 3rd floors, with a terra-cotta course above the 3rd (these also line with light wells). Above the 3rd floor the projecting piers are quite narrow and composed of terra-cotta instead of brick. A thin, projecting cornice sets off the 9th & 10th floors, which have boldly-projecting terra-cotta surrounds with beveled edges.
The fronts of the outer two wings have four bays of casement windows, each widely spaced between projecting brick piers (terra-cotta at the ends). They are otherwise largely similar to the middle wings, but have small service doors inserted into the end bays of the ground floor. At the 9th & 10th floors, the terra-cotta surrounds are less pronounced, and occur only at the center bays. The tops of the wings feature quatrefoil friezes and raised pinnacles.
The 11th floor is set back behind each wing. The middle two wings are crowned by water tower pavilions with oriels and rampant lions carrying standards. These also have quatrefoil parapets, and Tudor emblems such as falcon with gloved hand, wild boar, and crowns.
The building contains 215 apartments.
