 skyscraper, 2014_construction, Holiday Inn

488-foot, 50-story modernist hotel building completed in 2014. The tower was designed by Gene Kaufman, while Gwathmey Siegel Kaufman & Associates designed the building's facade. There is a 2-story base, with ventilation grilles on the 2nd floor, and a recessed area in the center of the Rector Street elevation for the entrances. Above, there is a 6-story vertical extension of the base for four bays on the west end of this facade, and two bays at the east end, with the two remaining bays in the center recessed back to the set-back tower portion. The tower is seven bays wide on the longer Rector Street side (although only five of these bays have windows) and the western bays of this facade are set back further than the rest. The tower is three bays wide on the west elevation facing Washington Street, and has two central bays on the east elevation.

The entire building is clad in light grey metal panels. The paired windows have red metal frames, with air conditioning vents in the bottom section of each window unit. The north side is a mostly blank wall, with one column of paired windows on the left, and a column of narrower single windows on the right. A water tower on the roof is visible from some angles.

Upon completion, it became the tallest Holiday Inn hotel in the world, with 292 guest rooms. The landmarked former St. George's church building next door has been interconnected to the hotel and now houses St. George's Tavern restaurant, serving the hotel directly.
