Estate home designed c. 1907 in the Elizabethan Revival style by A. Dunham Wheeler for Robert Van Vorst Sewell {artist}. Sewell was a noted painter of the time. The house is replete with hand-hewn carvings, murals, and sculpted ornamentation of "Canterbury Tales" which was largely done by Sewell. Many of the original furnishings also remain intact.

The home was subsequently owned by Grover O'Neill, Sr {financier}. O'Neill was a founder and partner of the Grover O'Neill & Co. investment banking firm, member of the Roosevelt & Son investment banking firm, and director of Oyster Bay Trust Co. The estate was later purchased by Eugene Du Bois who continued to call the home "Fleetwood".
