 apartment building, 1939_construction

6-story residential building completed in 1939. Designed by Rosario Candela, it is clad in red brick. Storefronts line the east facade along the avenue, and the east end of the north facade on 46th Street, while the rest of the north side has a limestone water table below five square openings at the center (filled by black metal vents), and limestone cladding at the full west end of the ground floor. The main entrance is in this section, with recessed black metal-and-glass double-doors and sidelights and a rounded black canvas canopy extending out over the sidewalk; at the far west end is a wide band of windows with nine panes.

On the east facade, the upper floors have three recessed bays dividing the rest of the facade into three south bays (two with paired windows and one with double-windows, three north end bays with single-windows, and two middle sections of two bays each - the south one has paired windows, and the north one has one bay with double-windows and the other with paired windows separated by brick pilasters. The two south recessed bays has two single-windows, and the north has double-windows; all are fronted by brown metal fire escapes with the landings behind low brick walls topped by metal railings, and each also has single-windows in the side walls.

The upper floors on the north facade are divided into west and east halves by another recessed bay, with four bays alternating single- and double-windows to either side. The west half has an extra floor above the ground floor due to the slope of the site. The recessed bay has paired single-windows (and also single-windows in the side walls) behind another fire escape, also with low brick walls and metal railings.

The west-facing facades flank a central courtyard and are clad in red brick, with alternating bays of single- and double-windows. The building contains 82 apartment units. The ground floor is occupied by Dawa grocery, Turtle Bay Liquors, Simon Shoe Repair, Artistic Cleaners, Golden Hair Salon & Barber Shop, City Smoke Shop, amd East Nail 45.
