Boxers NYC (Hell's Kitchen)

USA / New Jersey / West New York / Ninth Avenue, 742
sports bar, commercial building, gay bar

1-story commercial building completed in 1972. It is faced in light blue-grey smooth-stucco, with a chamfered corner entrance with glass double-doors. To the east, on the south facade on 50th Street, are five bays, with a glass double-door int the western one, and poster boxes in the others, all framed by moldings with keystones, and covered by a red canvas awning. Further east is a smaller bay with a metal service door and matching molding, and at the far east end is another service door covered by a black awning. A metal cornice caps the facade, stepped up higher at the center. It is topped by a metal railing surrounding the roof deck, except in the center, where there is a grey, paneled and stuccoed extension for the staircase up to the 2nd level.

The narrow west facade on the avenue has two bays to the north of the chamfered corner, one with a glass double-door, and the other with a poster box, both with moldings and keystones. The red awning extends onto this facade as well, and on the roof deck there are wooden pergolas.

In January 2013 this site (formerly Terrazza Toscana) reopened as a branch of Boxers NYC, a gay sports bar, to add to its existing outlet in Chelsea.
