The Ruradan

USA / New Jersey / West New York / East 48th Street, 8
 apartment building, commercial building

6-story residential building completed in 1942. Designed by Leon & Lionel Levy, the 6-bay facade is clad in tan brick piers and dark-brown brick spandrels above a ground floor of varied materials. The east third has a wood-and-glass restaurant storefront with French doors and transoms, and the main building entrance, with a recessed metal-and-glass door and sidelight framed between gently fluted pillars with rounded inner corners. A panel of greenish-grey marble tiles surmounts both sections, with the bottom half of it covered by a sloping canvas awning at the restaurant. The middle third of the ground floor has a stainless-steel-and-glass storefront with a beige-painted stone band on top; the middle of the storefront has a projecting, red-painted, wood-and-glass entry portico. The west end of the ground floor has a blue-painted metal-and-glass storefront surrounded by red and grey brick.

The upper floors have uninterrupted tan brick piers and square, 2-over-2 windows (the 2nd-from-west bay on the 2nd floor has been replaced with a single plate-glass pane). The dark-brown spandrels between floors have horizontal bands of slightly-projecting brick. A beige colored metal fire escape runs down the 2nd & 3rd bays from the east.

The building contains 28 apartment units. The ground floor is occupied by Dos Toros Tacqueria, Cafe K, and Lenwich sandwich shop.
