hotel, Neo-Gothic (architecture), 1926_construction
175-foot, 15-story Neo-Gothic hotel completed in 1926. Designed by Herbert J. Krapp, it opened as The Consulate Hotel. It was reopened as The Time Hotel in 1999. The 5-bay facade is clad in light-brown brick above a 2-story base of white metal panels and glass. The main entrance, with glass double-doors, is in the 2nd bay from the east. The eastern bay has three stainless-steel service doors, the middle bay has 2-over-4 windows, the 2nd bay from the west has two narrow windows and a glass door, and the west end bay has three windows; all the windows and doors are framed in stainless-steel. The Serafina restaurant occupies the three west bays on the ground floor, which is covered by a suspended canopy of stainless-steel and green glass. The 2nd floor has five large plate-glass windows and is capped by a steel band course.
The upper floors have paired windows in each bay, with limestone spandrels ornamented with trios of Gothic arches. Black metal air-conditioning vents have been added at the tops of one of the spandrels in each pair. A small, projecting sign is mounted to the 2nd pier from the east at the 4h floor. The 14th floor is capped by a metal cornice with a half-hexagonal projection at each pier, supported by flat stone brackets. The 15th floor is slightly set back at the end bays, and clad in limestone. It also has paired windows, and projecting stone piers with beveled edges. There is a recessed, 3-story mechanical penthouse on the roof, and a small, glass-enclosed solarium lounge at the northeast corner of the roof, just in front of the east elevation's light well.
The east elevation is clad in red brick, with one bay of single-windows at the front half. The west elevation is clad in brown brick at the front half and grey brick at the rear. It has six bays of double-windows, with the rear bay ending at the 12th floor setback on the rear facade. There are also two bays of small bathroom windows inside of the two end bays. The 2nd floor is occupied by Le Grande restaurant and lounge, above the ground floor's lobby, Goldfinch cafe, and Serafina restaurant.
