The Bluepeter Building, built in 1940, was originally built for the C.F. Hendry company, a ship chandlery business. The Bluepeter Company was an exhibit design company. The Dogpatch Neighborhood Association fought for several years to repurpose the building as a community center, but it was razed in March 2012. An aerial photo taken in 1946 shows the yard with three slips extending to what was then the waterfront, which ended approximately at the San Francisco Boat Yard property's western edge.
During the late 19th century until the early 20th century, the Hooper Lumber Company stood on this property. It included a planing mill and large storage facility.
