The control room of Reactor Unit 4 played a central role in managing the reactor’s critical operations and processes.

It was equipped with schematic panels, monitoring instruments, and automation systems that allowed operators to oversee the reactor’s status in real time and respond as needed. These systems were essential for ensuring the safe and efficient functioning of the unit.

Decisions made in this control room ultimately led to the catastrophic events of April 26, 1986. Although the reactor core explosion caused massive destruction, the control room itself remained undamaged. However, its equipment was later dismantled during the investigation into the disaster. Once these efforts were completed, the control room was permanently decommissioned, and its remaining components were decontaminated.
