Kodiak Regional Aquaculture Association (KRAA) operates two salmon hatcheries on Kodiak and Afognak Islands. Pillar Creek Hatchery (PCH) is located near the city of Kodiak and raises sockeye salmon juveniles for stocking in Spiridon, Hidden, Crescent, Little Waterfall, Little Kitoi, Jennifer, Ruth, and Sorg Lakes to provide adult returns for harvest in areas of Kodiak and Afognak Island that did not historically have sockeye harvests. These new runs are managed by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G), in part, by designated terminal harvest areas. Malina and Laura Lakes are also stocked with juveniles reared at PCH as part of efforts to rehabilitate depressed native sockeye stocks. Kitoi Bay Hatchery (KBH) is located on Afognak Island and raises sockeye salmon juveniles which are released into Little Kitoi Lake and Bay. These juveniles return to Little Kitoi Lake and a portion are used for brood stock development with excess fish harvested in traditional fisheries in the Kitoi Area.
