The NBL is part of the Sonny Carter Training Facility. This is a 40 ft deep, 200 feet long, and 100 feet wide pool. It holds 6 millions gallons of water. This is where the astronauts train for their spacewalks. In a twist of irony, spacewalks, which take place in a vacuum, is practiced and rehearsed in an atmosphere denser than the air we live in, water. It is the water which provides buoyancy and can help us simulate zero gravity conditions.
