Panchhari Upazila (Khagrachhari district) with an area of 261.400 sq km, is bounded by Indian State of Tripura on the north, Khagrachhari sadar upazila on the south, Dighinala upazila on the east and Matiranga upazila on the west. Chingri River, Golakpratima Khal and Bhagaban Tila are also notable.

The location of Panchari town is 23.2926535N 91.8988913E. Panchhari (Town) consists of one mouza. It has an area of 82.88 sq km. The town has a population of 11207; male 53.54% and female 46.46%; population density per sq km is 135. Literacy rate among the town people is 33.1%. The town has one dakbungalow.

Panchhari thana was turned into an upazila in 1983. The upazila consists of 4 union parishads, 7 mouzas and 57 villages.

Historical events: In accordance with the Chittagong Hill Tracts peace accord the Shantibahini surrendered their arms and ammunition at Dudukchhara of Logang union of this upazila. The Shantibahini was declared abolished from here.

Religious institutions: Mosque 16, Buddhist temple 30 and Hindu temple 5.

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census: Population 26319; male 52.05%, female 47.95%; ethnic nationals: Tripura 5427 families.

Literacy and educational institutions: Average literacy 25.4%; male 32.7% and female 17.5%. Educational institutions: college 1, high school 4, government primary school 40 and non-government primary school 10.

Cultural organisations: Rural club 17, cinema hall 1, cooperative society 81, playground 7, theatre group 1.

Main occupations: Agriculture 31.5%, wage labourer 13.49%, agricultural labourer 15.85%, commerce 10%, service 7.36% and others 21.8%.

Land use: Total cultivable land 5263 hectares, single crop 50.37%, double crop 34.14% and treble crop land 15.49%; cultivable land under irrigation 617 hectares.

Main crops Paddy, wheat, potato, corn, mustard, ginger, turmeric, chilli, brinjal and til.

Fisheries, dairies, poultries Fishery 10 and poultry 1.

Communication facilities- Roads: pucca 25 km, semi pucca 50 km and mud road 500 km.

Manufactories: Ice factory 2 and welding 3.

Cottage industries: Goldsmith 13, blacksmith 6, potteries 2, wood work 32 and sewing 26. Apart from these each tribal family weaves their own clothes. These are known as 'thami'.

NGO activities: Operationally important NGOs are brac and UNICEF.
