Elim Tabernacle's origin goes back to 1917. The first space was a rented storefront on the 600 block of 20th Street. They later moved to a newly built church on Idylwyld Drive and 25th Street, which is the current Chinese Alliance Church. Further growth necessitated a move to a new building on Moss Avenue and 8th Street East in 1976.

In 2009, the 8th Street property went up for sale as this new church was being constructed in the Lakewood Suburban Centre neighbourhood. Property was sold to Remai Group and the 8th Street church building was demolished in 2010.
