stadium, Major League Baseball - mlb, football field

The Rogers Centre, originally named SkyDome, is a multi-purpose stadium in Toronto, Ontario situated next to the CN Tower. It is the first stadium in the world to feature a fully retractable roof. The stadium is home to the Toronto Blue Jays of the American League of Major League Baseball and the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts, and (as of 2008), it is the National Football League's Buffalo Bills' secondary playing venue for the Bills Toronto Series. It was also the home of the NBA's Toronto Raptors from 1995 to 1999. While it is primarily a sports venue, it also hosts other large-scale events such as conventions, trade fairs, concerts, funfairs, and monster truck shows.

The SkyDome was designed by Robbie Young + Wright, and, at a cost of CAN$570,000,000, it was constructed from October 1986 to June 1989. It has a seating capacity of 52,230, with 5,700 club seats and 161 luxury boxes. The Renaissance Toronto Hotel is located at the north of the SkyDome, with 70 of its rooms overlooking the playing area. Its retractable motorised roof is composed of four panels (two rectangular ones in the middle and two semi-circular ones in the north and south), which are stacked at the north in an open position. Its height is 86 m (282 ft). The stadium was renamed "Rogers Centre" following the purchase of the stadium by Rogers Communications in 2005.

Among the events that have been hosted at the SkyDome/Rogers Centre were the 1991 MLB All-Star Game, the 1993 IAAF World Indoor Athletics Championships, the 1994 FIBA World Championship, WWE's Wrestlemania in 1990 and 2002, the annual International Bowl American college football bowl game from 2007 to 2010, Pool C of the 2009 World Baseball Classic, the Grey Cup in 1989, 1992, 2007, and 2012, and the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2015 Pan American Games.
