The backlot during the Ince and Goldwyn eras, and the MGM era before the big expansion to lots 2-6. This backlot area continued to shrink, becoming smaller and smaller as the studio expanded to additional lots and new stages were built here on lot 1. Eventually lot 1 was filled with sound stages, workshops, and office buildings. It is the same to this day.
