Phoenix Copper/Gold Project

The property is located south of the town of Battle Mountain, Nevada, USA. The Greater Midas pit is located south of the Phoenix pit. Iron Canyon is located immediately east of Phoenix.

Geology

Commercial Gold and Copper production began at Phoenix in the fourth quarter of 2006. Most of the 1,200 employees reside in the communities of Winnemucca and Battle Mountain, where Newmont is the largest private employer in the region. In addition, management is working to ensure a smooth transition between the scheduled cessation of mining at Lone Tree and the startup at Phoenix.

Project is located in faulted and folded Paleozoic rocks with plutonic intrusions. Gold and silver concentrations are found within carbonate skarns and contemporaneously emplaced faults and shears. Natural weathering has formed oxides and other secondary minerals amenable to heap leaching.
