Ramayapatnam fishing village and beach in Prakasam district was selected for a major central govt.seaport.Ramayapatnam is located 40 kms from its district headquarters ONGOLE and is very close to NH5 and main kolkota-chennai railwy line.

Apart from the major seaport,ship building,ship breaking,cargo stations,cold storages and allied manufacturing units are also coming in the 10,000 acres that was allotted to the port.The A.P state govt.has also sent proposal for sanctioning of NMIZ(National Manufacturing&Investment Zone)near Ramayapatnam area in 5000 acres making it as a integrated manufacturing and residential township.

With the sanctioning of the major seaport and allied manufacturing sectors,the Prakasam district and Ongole city will witness tremendous growth in the areas of exports of Granite,Tobacco,Aqua,Cotton,Iron Ore etc from the Prakasam dist.and other surrounding districts, infrastructure,public amenities,Airways,Road and railway network.
