Specificaly it was caused by Texas Brine solution mining all the salt from the outward side of their cavern. That caused the outside sediment overburden to collapse the cavern wall. The falling sediment caused the sinkhole to form. During the collapse several underground oil and gas formations ruptured and are not leaking oil and ga to the surface at the sinkhole and into the aquifer.
