1,396-foot, 90-story modernist residential building completed in 2016 for CIM Group with Macklowe Properties. Designed by Rafael Viñoly, it is the tallest residential building is the Western hemisphere. It replaced the Drake Hotel of 1926, as well as several rowhouses along 57th Street. The extremely tall and slender building is faced in a grid of white concrete, with each facade having six bays of expansive 10'x10' windows with a subtle green tint. Thin, black metal frames surround the windows.
Facing 57th Street there is a 6-story low-rise base of office space with a glass curtain wall; the tower rises behind it. The main residential entrance is on 56th Street, behind a white-and-black marble plaza. It has glass double-doors in the two middle bays, with a glass canopy covering the middle four bays. To the east, next to the plaza, is a 6-story glass cube at the corner of 56th and Park Avenue, containing retail space on the lower two floors, and offices above. The cube is connected to the tower by an underground passageway.
The 7th-8th floors contain the first of several double-height mechanical levels. Here, the windows are recessed, but on the other mechanical levels, the openings have no windows; instead they are open to the recessed drum-shaped mechanical housings at the center of the tower. Each round mechanical housing is clad in corrugated silver metal, and these 2-story mechanical levels are brightly lit at night. The shaft of the tower is composed of six mechanical levels between 12-story sections of residential floors, breaking the tower's height into boxy sections.
The tower's 104 condominium units feature high ceilings, and range from a 351-square-foot studio to an 8,255-square-foot, 6-bedroom, 7-bath penthouse with a library, which sold for $95 million to real estate mogul Fawaz Al Hokair. Some of the interiors were designed by Deborah Berke Partners and Bentel & Bentel.
The commercial space along 57th Street is occupied by Richard Mille watches, Amaffi Perfume House, and John Barrett Salon.
