Wheeling Nisshin Steel was established in 1986 as a joint venture between Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel and Nisshin Steel of Japan. The site was previously occupied by a disused Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel plant which was torn down and the new facility built. In 2008 Nisshin acquired Wheeling Pittsburgh's interest in the plant.

The facility produces all major hot dipped steel products including aluminized and galvanized products. The coated steel is used in automobiles, furniture, appliances and construction materials. Steel coils are purchased from different steel makers and received at the plant where a coat of molten zinc or aluminum is applied to the strip. The coated steel is then rolled back up and shipped out.

The plant employs 175 people.
