Zimbabwe House (Consulate & UN Mission)

USA / New Jersey / West New York / East 56th Street, 128
embassy / consulate / diplomatic mission, diplomatic / foreign mission / representation

5-story International-style consulate building completed in 1955. Designed by Knubel, Persich & Giacapelli , it is clad in black metal and glass between beige brick side walls. The ground floor has three sets of glass double-doors with windows between them and black metal end piers. The brick side walls begin at the 2nd floor. The upper floors consist of a curtain wall of glass with black metal spandrels and mullions. The upper halves of the spandrels between the 3rd & 4th floors, and the full spandrels above the 4th floor are gold instead of black (all of the spandrels were gold prior to being painted in 2014). The top floor is fronted by a row of small, dark-tinted glass round-arches the same width as the spandrel panels. The building is occupied by the Permanent Mission to the United Nations and Consulate of Zimbabwe.
