534 Madison Avenue

USA / New Jersey / West New York / Madison Avenue, 534
 apartment building, commercial building

5-story residential/commercial building originally completed in 1869. It was later given a new facade of beige stone, with storefronts installed at the south ends of the lower two floors. The ground floor has a black granite storefront with plate-glass display-windows and a recessed central entrance. To the right is the doorway to the upper floors, with a wood-and-glass door under a small round-arch. The 2nd floor has a slightly narrower plate-glass show-window topped by a triple transom in black iron framing. The north bay has a fanciful window with notched upper corners, surrounded by a thin molding with a rounded top, and at the base is a small, rounded balconette with a low wrought-iron railing.

A band course sets off the upper floors, which each have three bays of single-windows with full stone surrounds, including cornices. The 4th & 5th floors have bracketed sills, and there are low iron railings at the bases of the 3rd-floor windows. The facade is crowned by a bracketed black metal roof cornice. The lower two floors are occupied by The Persian Shop.
