845 Third Avenue (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / West New York / New York City, New York / Third Avenue, 845
 office building, commercial building

274-foot, 21-story International-style office building completed in 1963. Designed by Emery Roth & Sons, it is clad in a curtain wall of aluminum and dark-tinted glass. The massing and materials are very similar to the Roth-designed building across the street at 840 Third Avenue. The ground floor is faced in black polished granite, with a central entrance with glass doors set in glass walls, spanning two bays; both are topped by a white metal band with the stainless-steel numbers 845. To either side of the entrance are metal-and-glass storefronts, and a pair of projecting flagpoles flank the entry as well. The storefronts continue around the corners to the south facade, except at the east end, where there are metal service doors and a large vent, and to the north facade, which has another service door set in a large bay of steel louvers and a loading dock at the east end.

The upper floors have thin aluminum mullions and dark-grey metal spandrel panels. On each floor, alternating windows are divided vertically into three panes. The building has wedding-cake massing, with a setback on all three main facades above the 10th floor, and additional setbacks above the 12th, 15th & 16th floors. The top two floors are mechanical, with black metal vents in place of windows. The ground floor is occupied by a FedEx Office, and a Capital One Bank branch.
