On April 16, 1947 the worst industrial accident in United States history happened here. A French ship carrying flammable gasses caught fire and caused an explosion. The explosion destroyed the harbor. Then another ship with even more explosive chemicals exploded and caused a complete disaster. Then, there were even more explosions after. After the fire was put out, Texas City was ruined.
