The Bredenstone

United Kingdom / England / Saint Margarets at Cliffe /
 ruins, redoubt, historic landmark

Location on the Drop Redoubt of Dover's 'second' Roman Pharos or lighthouse. Proposals of its date range from 50 (only seven years after the invasion of 43), 80 or (since the building includes tiles identical to the mansio in the town built at that date) c.138, though the general consensus is for a 1st century A.C date.

The remains are known locally as the Bredenstone or 'Devil's Drop of Mortar' (hence the word Drop in 'Drop Redoubt') and are indistinguishable at the center of this wikimapia box.
