Completed in 2010, the Tana Beles Hydroelectric Power Plant is an underground structure. It has four Francis turbines, each powering a 115 megawatt generator, with a combined capacity of generating 460 megawatt of power. The Power Plant uses water from Lake Tana delivered through a tunnel, and after use, the water is then released into the Beles River which eventually drains into the Blue Nile.
