Expansion of the artificial lake of the Varvares dam.

Greece / Kozani / Maurodendrion /
 lake, hydroelectric power station/plant

At this time (August 2nd 2007) the construction of the dam is finished and the lake is currently rising. The waters have flooded about the 2/3 to 3/4 of the area, but the water level is still low.
It's interesting that water birds have been emerged and it seems possible a new wetland will be emerged in the years to come (similarly to the wetland created at the area of the artificial lake of Kerkini).
On the levee at the perimeter of the lake runs a 90% paved road and it's worth it to have a walk round the lake or enjoy a ride with your bicycle.
A public work that upgrades the area, will probably prevent floods at the plain of Veria and at the same time is harmonious to the surroundings.

Come here to relax and enjoy the serenity of this majestic environment.
